Second-hand Smoke?
Does anyone here believe their lung cancer was caused by second-hand smoke? My husband, a never smoker, grew up in a house with two heavy smokers. Could this have caused his cancer?...

Yale University: Radiotherapy Helpful For Certain Patients With Lung Cancer
New Haven, Conn. - Patients with lung cancer live longer when surgery is followed by radiation therapy, but only if the disease is at an advanced stage, according to a study by Yale School of Medicine researchers published this week in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. The analysis of 7,465 patients found that in patients whose lung cancer had spread to the regional lymph nodes between the lungs (mediastinal), overall survival at five years was 27 percent in patients receiving surgery plus radiation therapy compared to 20 percent in patients who were treated with surgery alone. "This analysis of outcomes for a very large group of patients shows that post operative radiotherapy for patients with positive mediastinal nodes may improve t...

What is Going to Happen
My very close aunt has just been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. For the past two weeks she has been in the hospital because her right lung was filled with blood so they put in a tube to drain it. Yesterday she finally got the tube removed and they put in the catheter and said they will start chemotherapy in two weeks. Her hemoglobin levels are very low (about 7). I was just wondering if these were normal symptoms of cancer and what I should expect. Everything I look up online tells me the prognosis is poor. Her oncologist told us she probably has 6 months left. I read all the other bulletins and saw other patients with the same diagnosis survive for 2 years and going. I just want to know what symptoms I can expect to see if it is getti...

New Findings From Japan, Canada And Italy In The Area Of Lung Cancer Described
Investigators in Japan, Canada and Italy have published new lung cancer data. Study 1: Resection of a solitary lung cancer recurrence might confer long-term survival in highly selected patients. According to recent research from Japan, "Some investigators have reported long-term survival after surgical resection of a solitary non-small cell lung cancer recurrence in various sites. However, the role and indications of the second operation remain unclear. We reviewed 28 patients with a solitary recurrence after successful initial resection of primary non-small cell lung cancer who underwent resection of the recurrent lesion." "The clinicopathologic factors associated with outcome were analyzed. There were 17 men and 11 women. Recurre...
