Spectrum Starts Phase 1 Trial To Evaluate Satraplatin Plus Capecitabine In Solid Tumors
Spectrum Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (SPPI) announced that its partner, GPC Biotech AG, has initiated a phase 1 study evaluating the company's lead drug candidate, satraplatin, in combination with Xeloda (capecitabine) in patients with advanced solid tumors. Xeloda is an oral form of 5-FU, a marketed chemotherapy treatment that is used to treat various cancers, including metastatic breast and colorectal cancers. Under Spectrum's agreement with GPC Biotech AG for satraplatin, GPC is responsible for fully funding development expenses, including this clinical trial, and will pay Spectrum royalties based on sales of this compound. Antisoma Reports Survival Advantage For AS1404 In Lung Cancer And Regains Product Rights
-- Atlanta, Georgia, and London, UK: 4 June 2006 Antisoma announces the presentation at ASCO of positive data from a phase II lung cancer study of its vascular disrupting agent AS1404 (DMXAA). Patients receiving AS1404 in addition to standard chemotherapy showed increased tumour response rates, longer time to disease progression and enhanced survival compared with patients receiving standard chemotherapy alone. Antisoma also announces that it has regained all rights to AS1404 from Roche, and plans to take the drug forward promptly into a phase III trial in lung cancer. Elevated Protein Levels Linked to Mesothelioma
Scientists at New York University School of Medicine and Wayne State University have found a molecule that reveals the early stages of pleural mesothelioma, a chest cancer caused by asbestos. The finding opens the way to a blood test for the disease, according to a new study published in the Oct. 13 issue of The New England Journal of Medicine. Lung Cancer
Today I decided to look up some info on lung cancer as I have a brother with this dreaded disease also. What I am seeing from reading this info is the lack of education given to patients and families. Beside being affected as a family member I am an oncology and chemo nurse. I feel obligated to get information to my patients and their families for I feel they are the ones that belong in the drivers seat.I encourage you to ask for care conferences with your doctors including the patient and the families, they need to do this as this as important as any part of the care.I'll keep watching for results yoou get and may God bless....
