Exposure to Some Rock Powder Can Cause Malignant Mesothelioma
Californians who live close to naturally occurring asbestos sources and who are exposed to low levels of the mineral are at increased risk for developing cancerous mesothelioma, a serious cancer of the membrane covering the lung, according to a new study published in the second issue of the October 2005 American Thoracic Society's American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Lung Cancer Treated By Irinotecan And Cisplatin
Nonsmall cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) could be treated by irinotecan and cisplatin (IP). "Combined chemotherapy with IP is active in patients with NSCLC. However, the optimal administration schedule needs to be defined to maximize its synergic effect," scientists writing in the journal Cancer reported. "The authors evaluated the efficacy, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics (PK) of IP chemotherapy given on 2 administration sequences in chemotherapy-naive patients with NSCLC," explained J.Y. Han and colleagues, South Korea National Cancer Center. "Eighty eligible patients were assigned randomly to receive 1 of 2 irinotecan and cisplatin administration sequences on Day 1: irinotecan followed by cisplatin (I-P) (n9 patients) or cisplatin follo...
Avastin, Has Anyone Had This Therapy?
I have been posting on this site and found great advice and support. Mom (59) has stage 4 non small. She has been accepted into a clinical trial that includes herbitox. However after seeing a Dr at Dana Farber this week ( she has yet to begin treatment) he suggested the use of Avastin. I had done a little research on it and seems as though if has some bad side effects for lung cancer paitents. Has anyone out there been on Avastin? She/we make our final decision on Friday and her oncologist here doesn't seem too happy in the idea that she may not want to go the clinical trial route. It seemed a good idea initialy but it is a randomized study and she may not get the Herbitox. We are just looking for the extra "bang" in the treatment and are l...
