Ing1 And Ing2 Genes May Having Different Roles In Lung Carcinogenesis
ING1 and ING2 genes may have different roles in lung carcinogenesis and progression. According to recent research from Japan, "The ING1 gene is involved in the regulation of the cell cycle, senescence, and apoptosis and is a novel candidate tumor suppressor gene. ING2, another gene in the ING family, was identified and cloned." "The functions of ING1 and ING2 largely depend on the activity of p53. To determine whether an alteration in these genes plays a role in carcinogenesis and tumor progression in lung cancer, we screened 30 human lung cancer cell lines and 31 primary lung cancer tumors for mutations in these genes using polymerase chain reaction-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCRSSCP) and direct sequencing. Our findings...

Lung Cancer Overdiagnosis Is Uncommon With Ct Screening
CT screening for lung cancer was reviewed, with overdiagnosis found uncommon. "The aim of this study was to assess the significance of Stage I diagnoses of lung cancer in the baseline cycle of screening for this disease, with special reference to the potential for overdiagnosis. We reviewed all 69 cases of Stage I lung cancer diagnosis resulting from our baseline CT screening. Among these 69 cases of lung cancer, 24 presented as solid, 30 as part-solid, and 15 as nonsolid nodules," scientists in the United States reported. "The extent to which these represented genuine malignancy was assessed by a panel of experts on lung pathology, and the 'aggressiveness' of these cases was addressed by the criterion of the tumor's volume doubling t...

Diagnosis
Please, please ask for chest X-ray or other diagnostic tools if you are a senior with bone complaints. Lung cancer should be ruled out first before undergoing treatment with physical therapy, painkillers and/or anti-inflammatories. We live in a community with 3 people diagnosed with lung cancer around the same time. 3 months were wasted with useless treatment. My husband is one of them but the other 2 just died after months of misdiagnosis. All 3 have had a history of smoking so shouldn't a red flag gone up. X-rays of bones show very little and it's an MRI that you must have. Are doctors out there so simple-minded that they don't suspect lung cancer when it is so common?...

Phase III Clinical Trial on Pleural Mesothelioma
Emory Winship Cancer Institute will be one of two facilities in Georgia to conduct a phase III clinical trial of Vorinostat (oral suberoylanilide hydromaxic acid) in patients with advanced cancerous pleural mesothelioma. The purpose of the study is to test the safety and efficacy of Vorinostat as well as to compare the overall survival associated with therapy of the drug.......
